official release from Darryl Konicki - LEC Assistant Commissioner

PAWTUCKET, R.I. – The Little East Conference (LEC) announced the 2018 all-conference teams and major award winners Tuesday as selected by the league's head coaches. Southern Maine's junior Jake Dexter (Oakland, Maine) and freshman Sam Troiano (South Portland, Maine) were named Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, respectively, while UMass Dartmouth junior Matt Cronin (Framingham, Mass.) was named Pitcher of the Year. UMass Boston's Brendan Eygabroat was elected LEC Coach of the Year.

Dexter was named the LEC Player of the Year for his combined high level of play on the mound, and the plate and in the field. The first-team all-conference relief pitcher has made 20 relief appearances to-date this season, posting a 4-3 record with a league-best 11 saves to go with a 1.67 ERA and 40 strikeouts over 32.1 innings of work. His 11 saves tie him for third-most in the nation.

Dexter, the younger brother of two-time LEC Player of the Year and Chicago White Sox draft pick Sam Dexter, also ranks among the league's top hitters, batting .387 with 65 hits, 11 doubles, three homers, 28 RBI and 31 runs scored. The LEC's first-team selection at second base has appeared in all 40 of Southern Maine's games this season.

Cronin started in 10 of his 11 appearances on the hill as a junior, posting a 6-1 record with a Division III-leading 0.99 ERA. He totaled 67 strikeouts over his 63.2 innings of work this season, which were the second and third-most in the LEC this season, respectively. Cronin, who earned all-conference honors for the first time, helped the Corsairs reach the loser's bracket final after allowing three runs on five hits with six Ks in an 8-3 elimination game win over Plymouth State.

Troiano became the ninth Husky to be named LEC Rookie of the Year after batting .258 with 41 hits, six doubles, five homers, 18 RBI and 32 runs scored in his first collegiate season. He has appeared in all 40 games for Southern Maine so far this season, including 38 at third base.

Eygabroat was named LEC Coach of the Year for the second time in three seasons after guiding the Beacons to a 30-8 regular season record the No. 1 Seed in the LEC tournament with a league-best 11-3 mark in conference play. UMass Boston ranked as high as No. 1 in the nation this year, moved up to No. 3 in the D3baseball.com/NCBWA Poll after winning capturing its third LEC tournament title. The Beacons will be the No. 1 Seed in this week's NCAA Division III New England Region Championship Tournament.
