    DANBURY, CT – Junior guard Jancy Sherwood (Poughquag, NY) tallied a team-high 14 points, while sophomores Gabrielle Hurlbert (Thomaston, CT) and Genesis Torres (Stratford, CT) added 13 and 10, respectively as the Western Connecticut State University women’s basketball team suffered a heartbreaking 85-77 loss to visiting non-league foe Mt. Saint Mary on Saturday afternoon at The O’Neill Center’s Feldman Arena. With the loss, the Colonials dropped to 4-4 overall, while the Knights improved to 6-4.

With the loss, the Colonials dropped to 4-3 overall and 0-2 in league play, while the Corsairs improved to 6-2 and 2-0.

Junior guard Jancy Sherwood (Poughquag, NY) netted a game-high 36 points, while senior guard Kaitlyn LaBonte (South Windsor, CT) chipped in with 28 for the Colonials. Junior guard Amber Jones (Bronx, NY) paced Purchase with 19, while senior guard Kayla Ortiz (Brooklyn, NY) added 15.

The Colonials will return to action in Day Two of the tournament when they meet Mitchell College – who lost to host Brandeis – in the consolation game on Saturday.
