Women's Volleyball Falls at RIC, 3-0

PROVIDENCE, RI – The Western Connecticut State University women's volleyball team fell to 4-17 overall and 1-3 in Little East Conference play following a 3-0 (26-24, 25-13, 25-19) loss at Rhode Island College on Tuesday night. With the win, the Anchorwomen improved to 11-9 and 1-3.

"I'm disappointed. Again, we did not play well and are allowing the other teams to dictate the tempo and control the game," said WestConn head coach Don Ferguson following the loss.

The Anchorwomen edged the Colonials, 26-24, in the first set. Junior outside hitter Jillian Ward (Coventry, RI) picked up eight digs and contributed two kills in the win. WCSU junior outside hitter Kamari King (East Hartford, CT) led the way for the visitors with four kills, while freshman libero Skylar Kellam (Fishkill, NY) registered seven digs.

RIC dominated the second set, cruising to a 12-point, 25-13, victory. Lambrese knocked down eight winners, while only making one error, in the frame. Freshman libero Samantha Borges (Swansea, MA) led the hosts with seven digs. King led Western with four kills.

The Anchorwomen completed the sweep by holding off a late run by the visitors to win, 25-19, in the decisive set. Ward had three kills and five digs.

WestConn returns to action for a tri-match at St. Joseph's on Saturday. The Colonials will seek to snap the skid against Misericordia at 2 p.m. before meeting the hosts later in the afternoon.
