  • Three WestConn Student-Athletes Honored By Little East Conference This Week

    PAWTUCKET, RI - Western Connecticut State University freshman forward Franz Muhaj (Bridgeport, CT), freshman Rory McMaster (Canton, MI) and sophomore swimmer Molly Henry (Pound Ridge, NY) have been named Little East Conference Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week, Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week and Women's Swimming and Diving Swimmer of the Week, for the week ending on October 13.

    CASTLETON, VT -  Mikey Sciortino (Shelton, CT) and Franz Muhaj (Bridgeport, CT) each scored very early goals and the Western Connecticut State University squad held on for a 2-1 decision over host Castleton University in Little East Conference play on Saturday night.
  • Reyes Nets a Pair as WestConn Men’s Soccer Outlasts Keene State, 3-2

    DANBURY, CT – The Western Connecticut State University men’s soccer team edged visiting Keene State College, 3-2, in a Little East Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at the Westside Athletic Complex. Junior midfielder Afa Reyes (Bridgeport, CT) netted a pair of goals to lead the Colonials, including the game-winner. With the win, WestConn improved to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in league play, while the Owls dropped to 8-3 and 2-1.

    PROVIDENCE, RI – Despite outshooting the hosts, 14-9, and holding the edge in corner kick opportunities, 6-5, the Western Connecticut State University men’s soccer team suffered a setback as they fell at Little East Conference nemesis Rhode Island College, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Colonials dropped to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in league play, while the Anchormen improved to 4-4-1 and 1-1.

    DANBURY, CT – Junior midfielder Afa Reyes (Bridgeport, CT) netted a pair of goals while classmate Matthew Restrepo (Bridgeport, CT) added one and dished out an assist to lead the Western Connecticut State University men’s soccer team to a 7-0 victory over the University of Southern Maine in the Little East Conference opener for both squads on Saturday afternoon at the Westside Athletic Complex. With the win, the Colonials improved to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in league play, while the Huskies dropped to 0-6-2 and 0-1.

With the win, the Colonials improved to 6-1 overall while the Owls dropped to 1-3.

    DANBURY, CT – Junior midfielder Afa Reyes (Bridgeport, CT) took a pass from rookie midfielder Kent Eannarino (Brookfield, CT) and blasted home the lone goal of the contest in the 64th minute of play to lead the Western Connecticut State University men’s soccer team to a 1-0 shutout victory over visiting non-conference opponent Emmanuel College on Thursday night. With the win, the Colonials improved to 5-1 overall, while the Saints dropped to 2-2.

    NEW LONDON, CT – Junior forward Ricardo Rodriguez (Danbury, CT) netted a goal and dished out an assist to lead the Western Connecticut State University men’s soccer squad to a 3-1 non-conference victory at Coast Guard on Tuesday night. With the win, the Colonials improved to 4-1 overall while the hosts dropped to 2-2.

    NORTH ADAMS, MA- The visiting Western Connecticut State University men’s soccer team got a pair of goals from junior midfielder Matthew Restrepo (Bridgeport, CT) and the Colonials held off the MCLA Trailblazers 4-2 this afternoon in the final game of the Kickoff Classic. The Colonials improve to 3-1 on the season while MCLA is winless at 0-3.

    Muhaj Nets Two Goals as Men’s Soccer Blanks Elms, 4-0 NORTH ADAMS, MA – Rookie forward Franz Muhaj (Bridgeport, CT) tallied two goals and junior midfielder Max Cano (Stratford, CT) dished out a pair of assists to lead the Western Connecticut State University men’s soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Elms on Day One of MCLA Tournament on Friday night. With the win, the Colonials improved to 2-1 overall while Elms dropped to 1-1-1. “I was very pleased with our effort and tenacity this evening,” said WestConn Assistant Coach Prince Ojok following the win. “We continued to hustle throughout the second half and didn’t give them an opportunity to get back into the game,” he concluded. The Colonials scored just 9:30 into the game when Cano found Muhaj for his second goal of the campaign. Moments later, Cano connected with Afa Reyes to put the visitors ahead 2-0. WestConn continued to dominate in the second half as they outshot Elms, 13-0. Muhaj struck for another goal before Robert Sam scored, unassisted, to wrap the count up at 4-0. The Colonials return to action for Day Two of the tournament on Saturday.

    PATCHOGUE, NY – After a tough season-opening overtime loss at Vassar on Friday, four different players pierced the scoring column as the WestConn men’s soccer team rebounded with a 4-1 victory at non-conference foe St. Joseph’s (LI) on Monday afternoon. Junior goalkeeper Daniel Szabo (Trumbull, CT) surrendered just one goal, while finishing with three saves to earn his first win of the season for the Colonials. 
  • WestConn Men's Soccer Falls In Overtime, 1-0 At Vassar

    POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - Western Connecticut State University junior goalie Daniel Szabo (Trumbull, CT) made four saves in nearly 99 minutes of work, narrowly missing his first clean sheet of the season, but the Colonials fell at Vassar College, 1-0 in overtime at Gordon Field on Friday.

    PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Two-time defending LEC tournament champion Western Connecticut State University (17-4-3, 4-2-2 LEC) was picked to finish second in the league by the LEC's head coaches, totaling 52 points and securing a pair of first-place votes in the Little East Conference (LEC) Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll.
