NORTH ADAMS, MA – Rookie forward Franz Muhaj (Bridgeport, CT) tallied two goals and junior midfielder Max Cano (Stratford, CT) dished out a pair of assists to lead the Western Connecticut State University men's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Elms on Day One of MCLA Tournament on Friday night. With the win, the Colonials improved to 2-1 overall while Elms dropped to 1-1-1.
"I was very pleased with our effort and tenacity this evening," said WestConn Assistant Coach Prince Ojok following the win. "We continued to hustle throughout the second half and didn't give them an opportunity to get back into the game," he concluded.
The Colonials scored just 9:30 into the game when Cano found Muhaj for his second goal of the campaign. Moments later, Cano connected with Afa Reyes to put the visitors ahead 2-0.
WestConn continued to dominate in the second half as they outshot Elms, 13-0. Muhaj struck for another goal before Robert Sam scored, unassisted, to wrap the count up at 4-0.
The Colonials return to action for Day Two of the tournament on Saturday.
