MANSFIELD, CT – The WestConn women's soccer team tallied another win to make it nine straight after defeating Eastern Connecticut State University in a close matchup, 2-1, on Wednesday evening. This win keeps them undefeated in the Little East Conference, holding their first place lead over UMass-Boston. Sophomore Kaleigh Panek (Shelton, CT) scored the deciding goal, assisted by Myah Croze (Bristol, CT).
After playing just 16 minutes, WestConn went on the attack to capture a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Brooke Gallagher (Middleton, NY) scored her second goal of the season on an assist by senior midfielder Baily McCollum (Cold Spring, NY).
WestConn was able to rattle up ten shots on goal over 18 total shots. The offensive tempo helped keep pressure off sophomore goalie Karly Martin (Bristol, CT) who only faced five shots on goal the entire game. Martin's excellent play continues as she received her 11th win of the season.
"Anytime we can go on the road to Eastern and come away with a victory is a huge positive. Despite what their record indicates, they proved to be a tough opponent tonight," stated WestConn head coach Alex Harrison.
Westconn returns to action Saturday at 12 p.m. against visiting league rival Plymouth State.
