DANBURY, CT – Junior outside hitter Victoria Korzan (Southbury, CT) tallied a match-high nine kills without committing an error to guide the Western Connecticut State University women's volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-19) win over visiting non-league foe Mitchell College in the regular season finale for the Colonials on Friday night at Feldman Arena. With the victory, WestConn improved to 21-6 overall, while the Mariners dropped to 13-11.
It also marked Senior Night for a pair of Colonials. Alyssa Barcomb (East Haven, CT) and Alyssa Dam (Poughkeepsie, NY) were honored before the contest. "It was a great way to wrap up the regular season and honor our two seniors," said WestConn head coach Don Ferguson following the match. "We need to take advantage of this layoff and work hard in practice before the postseason begins on Thursday," he concluded.
Dam led the evening off with a thunderous kill and the hosts would not look back. They cruised to a first set win that included several service aces. The Colonials would finish the evening with 18. Rookie setter Rory McMaster (Canton, MI) notched eight of them to go along with a match-high 28 assists.
It was the same story throughout the second and third sets as Dam also racked up one solo and three block assists.
The Colonials receive a first round bye in the upcoming six-team Little East Conference tournament. They finish as either the No. 1 or No. 2 seed pending Saturday afternoon's other action and will host a semifinal match on Thursday.
